Drake and Lil Wayne producer Omen dead at 49

Producer Omen has died at the age of 49. The New York City musician was best known for his work with artists such as Drake, Lil Wayne, and Beyoncé.

The producer (real name Sidney Brown) was found dead in his New York City apartment over the weekend.

After he missed a DJ gig at Barawine in Harlem, family members went to his East Harlem apartment and discovered he had died.

His sister, Nicole Brown, told NBC News, “He was holistic and healthy. So we don’t know of him being sick, so this is all pretty sudden.”

Omen was responsible for producing songs like Drake’s ‘Shut It Down’, Lil Wayne’s ‘I’m Single’, and Beyoncé’s ‘Mine’. He also produced for Ludacris, Fabolous, Memphis Bleek, Usher, Action Bronson, and many others.

Speaking on his career, his sister said, “I hope people will remember that he was willing to help the younger generation. He was always big on helping younger people start their careers and get themselves into the game. It was about just the music, no matter who the artist was.”

The venue, Barawine, also shared a statement about Omen’s death, paying tribute to a musician they had worked with for more than 10 years.

“It is with great shock and deep sadness we have heard about the passing of our dear friend Omen Sidney Brown,” they wrote. “Omen was a part of Barawine’s team for over a decade bringing his unique talent to all.”

They added, “There are not enough words to express our feelings. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family, his friends and all who love him. We will never forget you, Omen. Rest in peace.”
