Drake jumps on remix of indie pop hit confusing fans
Toronto native Drake has confused his many hip-hop fans by releasing a parody remix of the 2006 indie-pop track ‘Hey There Delilah’ by the Plain White T’s. The song, entitled ‘Wah Gwan Delilah’, was released on the streaming platform SoundCloud.
The Scorpion emcee teamed up with fellow Toronto musician and comedian Snowd4y to put a Caribbean-inspired, patois spin on the song. ‘Hey There Delilah’ initially heard the Plain White T’s praise and flatter a woman. However, Drake’s rendition was rather more racy.
‘Wah Gwan Delilah’ hears the pair singing flippant lyrics with the help of autotune. With lines such as “Wah gwan, Delilah? Know I’m late ’cause there’s bare traffic / I just show my dog your ‘Gram / He said he knows a man that slapped it” and “I’m so cheesed / Your ‘mademoiselle’ nights are geeked, I’m bent lowkey,” it’s somewhat different from the original.
Drake continued with rhyming, “Wah gwan, Delilah? Double date me if you like me/ Brought my cro’nem for your bestie / Sorry, he’s wearin’ a Shiesty, he’s not beat / It’s just too smokey in these streets / You’re looking sweet.”
Many fans thought that, like ‘Taylor Made Freestyle’, the ‘God’s Plan’ rapper had used artificial intelligence to generate some of the vocals. However, Drizzy debunked the theory by taking to Instagram, writing, “@snowd4y wake up the city.”
Following the release of ‘Wah Gwan Delilah,’ Drake fans took to social media in droves to share their thoughts. One user shared their thoughts, writing, “That n*gga Kendrick literally lobotomized Drake to the point where he’s making and recording absolute gobbledygook.”
Another added, “It’s official. Drake and J Cole are in competition on who can feature on the worst song every single week. ‘Wah Gwan Delilah’ isn’t even listenable at all.” It seems many fans share this sentiment.
This is Drake’s first release since his battle with Kendrick Lamar, and many are extremely unimpressed by the release.
