Drake hits out at “fake friends” in rant about Kendrick Lamar feud
Drake has been at the centre of a lot of controversy since he entered a feud with Kendrick Lamar earlier in 2024 and it seems the Scorpion creator is still angry about what went down.
During an appearance at Tyrone Edwards’ Nostalgia Party in Toronto, the emcee recently called out “fake friends” in the music industry who didn’t support him during the Lamar feud. Although Drake didn’t mention anyone by name, he was evidently infuriated by the behaviour of some during the heated exchange.
The Candianrapper gave a warning to the crowd about people who “switch up” and “try to stab you in the back” when you are in trouble, suggesting that some people he trusted in turned out to be not so loyal to him.
In preparation for what turned out to be an aggressive rant, the ‘One Dance’ hitmaker grabbed the mic from Edwards’ hands to make a declaration. Speaking about friends, he shouted, “My real friends are definitely in the building! But I’m going to tell you, you’re going to come to a point in life where people you thought were your friends or people you thought were close to you, they might switch up.”
The 37-year-old continued, “They might try to move funny with you. They might stab you in the back. They might do a lot of things to you. You’ll come to that realisation, wherever you’re at in life. You’ve probably been there, and you’ll be there again. That’s how life is. Sometimes it’s you and you alone by yourself.”
After his passionate speech, the lyricist proceeded to play some music. He strangely began by playing Beyoncé’s 2003 hit ‘Me, Myself and I.’ Following this, he played 50 Cent’s Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ single ‘Many Men’, a track about the intentions of enemies.
Some of the song’s lyrics include, “Many men wish death upon me / Blood in my eye, dog, and I can’t see / I’m tryin’ to be what I’m destined to be.” Drake reportedly unfollowed some well-known names on Instagram after the party to put distance between himself and them. The former Degrassi star allegedly unfollowed NBA stars LeBron James and DeMar DeRozan, who showed love to Kendrick amid the beef.
Many fans have assumed that Drake unfollowed these two celebrities because they attended Lamar’s Juneteenth concert over the summer. Furthermore, DeRozan even joined the DAMN creator onstage as he performed his Drake diss track, ‘Not Like Us.’
The two rappers exchanged a series of diss tracks during the summer. However, in the court of public opinion, Lamar beat Drake, and he still seems to be furious about the result.
