Drake affiliate Top5 arrested on firearm charges
Toronto rapper Top5 was arrested by police on firearms charges last week. The local rapper, who is affiliated with Drake, was handcuffed on January 24th after 53 Division’s Major Crime Unit conducted an investigation, leading to the approval of a search warrant in the Enterprise Boulevard and Birchmount Road area.
26-year-old Top5 (real name Hassan Ali) has been hit with six charges, including careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device, possession of a weapon, unauthorised possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorised and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition.
Yasin Ali, 29, was also hit with the same charges, as well as possession of a firearm while prohibited. They were both set to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West on January 25th at 10am. The Toronto Police Service is asking for anyone with information to reach out to police at 416-808-5300.
Top5 was arrested in 2021 for the murder of Hashim Omar Hashi, but the case collapsed after the judge ruled that various items of evidence could not be used during the trial. In a message on Instagram following the verdict, he thanked Drake, writing, “Shoutout big bro @champagnepapi for the Lawyer Fees & Gary Grill for being the best lawyer in Toronto #ALLAHUAKBAR.”
Music manager Wack 100, who famously works with The Game, Blueface and 6ix9ine, recently advised Drake to stay clear on Top5. “Drake needs to get away from Top5. He’s bad news,” he told No Jumper.
Holding up a USB drive, he continued, “This is how much respect I got for you, Drake. No troll, on Piru, you need to get away from that dude. This has been in existence for about 90 days and I have made sure it hasn’t [gone] anywhere, personally. I think you know what I’m talking about.”
He added, “That dude, with his mouth and the things he says, it does not support your career. I’m telling you as a brother … get the fuck away from Top5, bro. Remember, I’m warning Drake, he’s gonna have you hemmed up, caught up and cuffed up. Dude is reckless with his mouth, he ties you to things and he’s a dumbass.”
