Dr Dre was served divorce papers while at his grandmother's funeral

For many decades, those at the peak of the rap game liked to portray themselves as part of a new type of mafia. Now, in a page ripped right out of the Godfather script, Dr Dre has been served his divorce papers while attending his grandmother’s funeral.

The N.W.A. mogul was likely not best pleased to receive the papers in such a circumstance after the rapper’s estranged wife, Nicole Young’s lawyers saw the opportunity to serve their target. Dre’s grandmother is widely known as the artist’s closest family member.

The documents at hand relate to Young’s legal fees and will have been unwelcome at the event. Both Dre (real name Andre Young) and Nicole Young’s representatives confirmed the story to TMZ, despite their conflicting accounts.

Dre’s team claim that the rapper was approached while standing at the gravesite of his deceased grandmother. However, Young’s representative said that they met with Dre in the car park after the event.

The pair married in 1996 but split in 2020 citing “irreconcilable differences”. The papers served to Dre are in relation to the $1.55 million owed by the music mogul to Young for her legal fees after a judge ruling.

In more music-related matters, Dr Dre will aim to start ‘The Aftermath Takeover’ alongside Snoop Dog before the end of 2021.
