Dr. Dre takes legal action against "hateful" Marjorie Taylor Greene after she used 'Still D.R.E.' in promo video

Dr. Dre has called out the Republican representative Marjorie Taylor Greene after she used his classic track ‘Still D.R.E.’ in a self-promotional video celebrating her role in helping to elect fellow Republican lawmaker Kevin McCarthy as a speaker of the House.

The legendary producer and rapper said yesterday morning (January 9th), “I don’t license my music to politicians, especially someone as divisive and hateful as this one.” Greene’s video was nearly two minutes long and was posted with the caption, “It’s time to begin … and they can’t stop what’s coming.”

The Georgia-born far-right lawmaker is then spotted walking out of her office to the iconic sounds of Dre’s 1999 track featuring Snoop Dogg. However, the video has since been removed from Twitter “in response to a report from the copyright owner”.

Dr. Dre’s lawyer has since sent a letter to Greene, saying, “Mr. Young [Dre] has not, and will never, grant you permission to broadcast or disseminate any of his music.” He then went in hard on the Republican, adding, “you would have a passing familiarity with the laws of our country. It’s possible, though, that laws governing intellectual property are a little too arcane and insufficiently populist for you to really have spent much time on.”

“We’re writing because we think an actual lawmaker should be making laws, not breaking laws, especially those embodied in the constitution by the founding fathers,” the letter continued. “Please provide me with written confirmation that you have complied with these demands before January 11, 2023, by 5:00 pm EST.”

Strangely though, Greene, who is known for devising conspiracy theory, said, “While I appreciate the creative chord progression, I would never play your words of violence against women and police officers, and your glorification of the thug life and drugs.”
