See Donald Glover in first trailer for ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’

The actor and rapper Donald Glover appears in the trailer for a revamp of the classic 2000s action comedy Mr & Mrs Smith. The serialised feature will arrive in 2024.

Distributed by Prime Video, Mr & Mrs Smith will be released as a TV series with episodes airing from February 2nd, 2024. Glover will star in the role of Mr Smith, as portrayed by Brad Pitt in the 2005 original.

The trailer, soundtracked by Shirley Bassey’s version of ‘(Where Do I Begin) Love Song’, the new trailer sees Glover and his co-star Maya Erskine in the titular roles. Much of the plot has been kept under wraps, but it is assumed that the storyline will be based generally on that of the original movie, with a few surprises along the way.

In the 2005 original, Brad Pitt starred opposite Angelina Jolie. Although the couple are married and cohabiting, they are initially unaware the other is an undercover assassin working for the enemy faction.

Joining Glover and Erskine in the serialised revamp are Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Michaela Coel, John Turturro and Paul Dano. Their specific roles are yet to be divulged.

When the new Mr & Mrs Smith project was first teased in 2021, Phoebe Waller-Bridge was slated to appear as Mrs Smith opposite Glover; however, she has since backed out, leaving the role in the capable hands of Erskine. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Waller-Bridge backed out due to creative differences with Glover.
