‘Hot In Herre’: DNC uses Nelly song to diss Donald Trump

At the Democratic National Convention (DNC) this week, the United Automobile Workers President, Shawn Fain, used the classic Nelly song ‘Hot In Here’ to take a swipe at Donald Trump. The former president is currently in a race against Kamala Harris to replace President Joe Biden in 2025.

Naturally, the DNC was full to the brim with jokes, most of them aimed in Trump’s direction. Not only is the former president a highly controversial figure, but his persona owes itself to satire. Elsewhere during the event at the Oasis Center at Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, Tennessee, Steve Kerr employed Steph Curry’s “Night Night” gesture to convey that Trump’s campaign was already over.

When his time to shine arrived, Fain took to the stage, removed his jacket and quoted ‘Hot In Herre’. After doing so, he discussed Nelly as an “American poet”. The United Automobile Workers President has long opposed Trump as a president and re-election candidate. He has also supported Kamala Harris in her political endeavours for about as long.

When Fain removed his jacket on stage, the words “Trump is a scab” appeared on his shirt. “In the words of the great American poet Nelly,” Fain announced. “It’s getting hot in here.” The skit went down extremely well with the audience, who erupted into a rapture of laughter and applause.

In the past, Nelly has been vocal about his own political position. In 2000, he name-dropped Trump in his single ‘Rid Wit Me’. At the time, Trump was a businessman and television personality. Nelly revealed to Page Six later that he didn’t mind him as far as celebrities go. “He doesn’t surprise me as a person,” Nelly mused at the time. “He surprises me as a president because you don’t expect certain things, certain attitudes.”

Continuing, Nelly revealed that he doesn’t align with Trump’s political outlook. He even decided to stop staying at Trump Tower at that point. “I’m more or less mad at him because I can’t stay at his hotels now,” the St. Louis rapper said. “I’ve been staying there for 15 years, and now you pull this?”

Elsewhere, Nelly has dealt with problems of his own in recent months. On August 8th, the singer was arrested for an outstanding traffic warrant. Initial reports also cited a drug charge since four ecstasy pills were found on his person. However, he was later acquitted of this charge.
