DJ Akademiks picks one rapper to defeat Kendrick Lamar in a battle
DJ Akademiks has issued a role call among rappers, asking anyone who believes they have the necessary skill set to take down Kendrick Lamar to step up to the plate. In asking rappers to come forward, Ak also revealed the only one he believes would successfully take Kendrick down.
His comments came following Big Sean’s recent appearance on Charlamagne Tha God’s new podcast, Out of Context. Sean revealed that he was close to having his own issues with Kendrick following the release of the song ‘Element’, on which Lamar disses him. Any potential beef was quickly stopped as Lamar apparently called Sean up to apologise.
“Yo, I’m at the point – even y’all say Drake ain’t win – I’m rooting for any ni**a that could fuck Kendrick up!” Said the streamer, “I’m tired of this shit!”
Ak continued, “He got rappers sounding like hoes! Ni**as are apologising, scrolling their text messages unsending what is this ni**a doing? Y’all got the same 24 hours in a day why can’t y’all squabble with this little midget, what the fuck?!”
From there, Ak suggested one rapper that he believed would be able to take Kendrick down in a battle. He called on Lupe Fiasco, begging him to challenge the Compton rapper. While a beef between the two talented rappers would undoubtedly be a spectacle, it likely won’t happen, as following a recent appearance on Joe Budden’s podcast, Fiasco admitted he didn’t have any issue with Kendrick.
“I do not have a problem. No matter what was said in the past, what you think happened, what happened, what didn’t happen,” he said, “I personally and professionally do not have a problem with my brother-in-arms, Kendrick Lamar.” This comment comes after Fiasco had spared rumours about an ongoing feud with Lamar, siding with Drake during the beef.
It’s been a good year for both Lamar and Fiasco. While Lamar is still riding off the success following the Drake beef, Fiasco has released one of his most ambitious and exciting records to date. His new album, Samurai, has received praise from fans and critics alike, as his blend of rapping, singing, and jazz stands out in this year’s hip-hop offerings.
Fiasco has confirmed that the album is based on Amy Winehouse’s conversation with her producer, during which she said she had been writing battle raps. “I got to tell people what the story is about,” said Fiasco when deciding to commit an entire album to the interesting concept.
