
Digital Underground rapper Cleetis Mack dies suddenly
Digital Underground rapper Cleetis Mack has reportedly died.
Mack (also known as Clee) was a member of the 1990s hip-hop group, best known for launching the career of Tupac Shakur.
According to TMZ, Mack passed away suddenly, with a representative for the group saying his death “leaves a void in our Digital Underground family and in our hearts that can never truly be filled.”
Despite the news, a cause of death hasn’t been revealed. Mack joined Digital Underground in 1993, six years after it was founded by Shock G, Chopmaster J, and Kenny-K.
His first single as a member of the group was ‘Wussup Wit the Luv’ with Tupac, which appeared on their album, The Body-Hat Syndrome.
In a statement, Digital Underground said Mack was “more than a part of the movement – he was part of the soul behind it, bringing warmth, loyalty, and quiet strength to everyone around him.”
They continued, “He will always be remembered by his humility, love, and spirited energy, qualities that lifted those around him and made a lasting impression on all who knew him.”
Digital Underground are known for their 1990 hit ‘The Humpty Dance’, which reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100; it has over 122 million stream on Spotify and another 56 million views on its music video. Tupac left the group in 1993 to focus on his solo career.
Shock G also died suddenly in 2021. He was found dead in his hotel room in Tampa with no signs of trauma.
It was later revealed by the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner that the cause of death was an accidental overdose of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and alcohol.
