Tony Buzbee withdraws from seven Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs lawsuits
Tony Buzbee, the famed lawyer behind many sexual assault lawsuits against Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs, has moved to withdraw from seven cases. The action comes after a judge called him out for not being admitted to practice in the Southern District of New York.
Reporter Meghann Cuniff obtained multiple notices of motions to withdraw his appearances in documents filed on March 18th.
“Please take notice that pursuant to Local Civil Rule 1.4(b), Anthony Buzbee, an attorney for Plaintiff in the above-captioned action, hereby moves to withdraw his appearance as an attorney of record until such time as he is admitted to practice in this Honorable District,” documents read.
The paperwork added, “Plaintiff will continue to be represented by remaining counsel of record from Curis Law.” This is just one example of the seven notices filed by Buzbee this week.
Last month, Combs’ legal team filed a motion opposing Buzbee’s request to represent a client in the Southern District of New York while not licensed there.
The filing read, “In our collective decades of practice, undersigned counsel have never opposed a pro hac vice application, and we do not do so lightly here. But Buzbee’s egregious misconduct warrants denial of the privilege of appearing in this district.”
It referenced several Southern District of New York civil suits where Buzbee failed to state that he hadn’t received permission to represent his clients.
Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter sued Buzbee after claiming he was “shamelessly” trying to extort him over the lawsuit he filed against him last year, in which he was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 alongside Combs. Buzbee voluntarily dismissed the lawsuit in February.
Combs has been charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution, with his trial set to begin on May 5th. He has pled not guilty and denies all wrongdoing.
