Daz Dillinger reveals why Snoop Dogg kicked him off Death Row Records
Daz Dillinger has gone into detail about why Snoop Dogg allegedly booted him off Death Row Records.
The Long Beach rapper was once signed to Death Row, releasing his debut solo album Retaliation, Revenge and Get Back on the label.
The project reached number eight on the Billboard 200 chart with appearances from Snoop, Tupac Shakur, Nate Dogg, Too $hort, Kurupt, MC Eiht, and others.
His cousin, Snoop, purchased Death Row in 2022, having released classic albums Doggystyle and Tha Doggfather on the label in the 1990s.
During an episode of The Punchline Academy, Daz explained why Snoop removed him from the label. “It’s my cousin,” he said. “You get into it all the time. He kicked me off. You know, I ain’t going back this time.”
Daz claims he knew there was an issue when he didn’t get invited to a show. “He’s just like, ‘You ain’t signing your catalogue over to me,'” he said. “And I’m like, ‘I’m keeping it. It’s worth a lot.'”
He said his publishing is worth more than the label’s ownership and is happy if his house is paid for and he continues to receive music royalties.
According to Daz, Snoop’s acquisition included material released from 2022, but Daz filed for copyright reversion, meaning the creator reclaims ownership or rights to work that was transferred after 35 years.
Daz has collaborated extensively with Snoop in the past, releasing a joint album titled Cuzznz in 2016. He famously worked across Doggystyle, released in 1993, and Tupac’s All Eyez on Me, released in 1996.
He released his latest album, Retaliation, Revenge and Get Back 3, in September, following Retaliation, Revenge and Get Back 2 in June.
