D’Angelo’s daughter remembers singer on first birthday since his death

D’Angelo‘s daughter has paid tribute to the legendary singer on his first birthday since his death.

February 11th would have marked the neo-soul legend’s 52nd birthday, but he passed away in October 2025 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

His daughter, 26-year-old Imani Archer, took to Instagram this week to honour her father, revealing her heartbreak since he’s been gone.

“No words will describe how hard everyday has been without you here,” she wrote alongside a childhood photo. “I can’t explain the pain of knowing I’ll never be able to hear your voice again. I’ll never get over it. Every day has been so incredibly scary and I’m so heartbroken I can’t hear you tell me everything’s gonna be ok. I’ll never understand why this had to happen.”

She added, “I miss you Daddy. I hope you’re having a peaceful first heavenly birthday. I love you forever AND EVER!!!! I can’t wait until I see you again.”

Imani is one of D’Angelo’s three children. He also has two sons, 28-year-old Michael Archer Jr, whose mother is Angie Stone, and 15-year-old Morocco.

Michael also lost his mother in March 2025. After D’Angelo’s death, he released a statement addressing both losses.

“I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers during these very difficult times, as it has been a very rough and sad year for me,” he said. “I ask that you please continue to keep me in your thoughts as it will not be easy, but one thing that both my parents taught me was to be strong, and I intend to do just that.”

D’Angelo released the final album of his lifetime, Black Messiah, in 2014. It served as his third LP following Voodoo and Brown Sugar.
