Dame Dash launches new record label
Dame Dash has announced that he’s returning with a new record label.
The music executive, best known for co-founding Roc-A-Fella Records with Jay-Z and Kareem Burke in the 1990s, has now launched Dash Records.
Dash took to Instagram over the weekend to reveal the news, asking for all types of creatives to reach out to him for opportunities.
“Proud to announce my latest venture,” he wrote. “We are searching for the best Hungry and talented Recording Artist, Videographers, Engineers, Producers, Make up artist, Stylist and Digital Marketers.”
He continued, “Share and Tag Your Favorite Creatives. Come Get With The Hottest Record Label In The World. Please email your portfolio to: [email protected].”
The news comes after it was revealed that Dash filed for bankruptcy in September 2015, showing he was $25 million in debt.
His lawyer, Brian D Zinn, told The Los Angeles Times, “While it may come with a negative societal preconceived notion, bankruptcy is simply a legal tool that many successful people have used to restructure their obligations to make their debts more manageable.”
He added, “Mr Dash’s bankruptcy filing will stop most lawsuits and other collection activities. It will give him breathing room to organise his finances and rebuild his credit. He may also be able to eliminate some or most of his debts.”
Dash parted ways with Roc-A-Fella in 2004 after founding the company in 1994. The company ceased operations in 2013.
The 55-year-old has criticised his former business partner, Jay-Z, in the past. “Jay-Z was a terrible marketer,” he once said. “He’s the worst marketer of all time. Do you remember any Roc-A-Fella artist, when they had a new record, homeboy jumping on their first single?”
