Dame Dash explains why Nas obliterated Jay-Z in their battle

Jay-Z and Dame Dash were once the closest of friends and, in the mid-’90s, founded Roc-A-Fella Records following a string of label rejections. The two created a dynasty that lasted into the mid-200s. However, a fallout between the two meant that in 2008, Jay-Z broke off to start a new entertainment agency and label, Roc Nation.

The two moguls have had a strained relationship over the years. However, last year the pair were pictured together at a birthday party held for a mutual friend in which they seemed amicable.

However, during an appearance on the That’s F*cked Up Podcast with AD Dolphin, Joshua Engle and Alejandro G, the Roc-A-Fella co-founder admitted that Nas destroyed Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) in 2001 with his iconic diss track ‘Ether’ and disclosed that in his opinion Jay’s response was “terrible”.

Speaking about the Brooklyn emcee’s ‘Ether’ response ‘Super Ugly’, Dash stated, “Jay’s response was terrible!” Unveiling the lead-up to Hov’s initial diss track ‘The Takeover,’ the Roc-a-Fella co-founder explained, “The thing is, we had first hit him with the joint at Summer Jam that was kinda hard, the ‘Takeover.’ But when [Nas] came with the ‘Ether,’ I was kinda hyped because he said my name. I was like, ‘I guess I’m in a rap record.'”

He continued, “But the response, I wasn’t there for the response. The rap that he did was wack — when I heard it, I was pissed. And they in there high-fiving and shit. I’m like, ‘What you high-fiving for? This shit is wack.'”

Dame explained how Queens native Irv Gotti, who was close to Nas, had a lot of information about Jay-Z and had given Nas a lot of power with some specific details about who Carter was hanging out with prior to finding fame.

Dash concluded by unveiling that Jay-Z is not good at battle rapping, claiming, “You see how his wars go with rap — he doesn’t win it. He’s not a general like that.” However, he said there is no bad blood between the pair now.
