Coolio left behind six-figure debt following Los Angeles death

Coolio was reportedly in six figures of debt when he passed away.

The West Coast rapper, best known for his 1995 hit ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’, passed away in 2022 after being found unresponsive on his friend’s bathroom floor.

According to TMZ, the man who manages his estate, Jarel Posey, claims Coolio owes $140,000 in state and federal taxes.

He was also hit with a $173,000 creditor claim by a woman named Randa Davis, while also owing $1,400 in medical bills. The problem is, the estate only has $24,385.60 in its bank account.

Coolio died in Los Angeles on September 28th at the age of 59. His cause of death was fentanyl, with his family revealing he also had traces of heroin and methamphetamines in his system.

His manager, Sheila Finegan, released a statement following his death, paying tribute to his talent.

“We are saddened by the loss of our dear friend and client, Coolio, who passed away this afternoon,” his manager said at the time. “He touched the world with the gift of his talent and will be missed profoundly. Thank you to everyone worldwide who has listened to his music and to everyone who has been reaching out regarding his passing. Please have Coolio’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”

Michelle Pfeiffer, who starred alongside Coolio in the video for ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’, also shared her condolences.

“Heartbroken to hear of the passing of the gifted artist Coolio. A life cut entirely too short,” she said. “As some of you may know, I was lucky enough to work with him on Dangerous Minds in 1995. He won a Grammy for his brilliant song on the soundtrack – which I think was the reason our film saw so much success.”

She continued, “I remember him being nothing but gracious. 30 years later, I still get chills when I hear the song. Sending love and light to his family. Rest in Power, Artis Leon Ivey Jr.”
