Chris Brown arrested in Manchester over 2023 bottle attack

Musician Chris Brown was arrested in Manchester at 2am on May 15th over an alleged bottle attack that happened two years ago.

Reportedly, the event occurred in a nightclub in London in 2023. The Metropolitan Police arrested the musician in the five-star Lowry Hotel at 2am on May 15th. Brown arrived in Manchester on May 14th on a private jet ahead of his upcoming UK shows.

A police statement says: “He has been taken into custody, where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. Detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit are leading the investigation.”

It was reported that the cause for arrest was due to suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm to music producer Abe Diaw at Tape nightclub. The court documents of the attack alleged he suffered “severe and lasting injuries” after being beaten “over the head.”

Brown was on a worldwide tour during the 2023 attack. He was playing in the UK on the night in question. Diaw launched a civil claim against Brown for $16 million in damages for injuries and losses suffered as a result of the alleged attack.

The police investigation could now throw the remainder of his performances into chaos. The singer is set to play ten more dates across the UK next month as part of his Breezy Bowl XX Tour, which was meant to kick off on June 8th in Amsterdam.

The tour marks 20 years of his career. He shared his excitement for it recently on Instagram, stating in a post: “CELEBRATING 20 years of CB. So excited to be able to share this moment with the world and my amazing fans.”

His UK dates include four nights of performances at the Co-Op Live in Manchester, including on May 15th and 16th. It is unknown whether these dates will go ahead. Brown is also set to play the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Glasgow’s Hampden Park and Birmingham’s Villa Park.

Brown is yet to comment on his arrest.
