Childish Gambino delays tour amid health concerns: “Hold on to your tickets”

As an actor, writer, director, producer, musician, husband, and father, Donald Glover has plenty on his plate, with the star announcing that his stage persona Childish Gambino is hitting the pause button on touring in support of his latest album.

Bando Stone & the New World was released in July 2024 and doubles as the soundtrack to Glover’s upcoming film that hasn’t released yet, with the New World Tour kicking off in August. The run of concerts was scheduled to end on October 3rd, but those who bought tickets will need to wait a little longer.

Gambino hasn’t cancelled the gigs, and anyone who bought a ticket will be able to attend the rescheduled shows, but new dates have yet to be announced. The performer shared that he needed a break to focus on his well-being, safeguarding his own health and guaranteeing that he’ll be able to put on the best performance possible for the audience.

“Hey, everyone. Unfortunately, I have to postpone the rest of the North American tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks,” Glover wrote on social media. “Hold onto your tickets. All tickets will be honoured for the upcoming dates in North America when they are rescheduled. Thanks for the privacy. Thanks for the support. Thanks for the love.”

With Glover announcing that the Childish Gambino persona is set to be retired after reaching the end of its natural lifespan, the upcoming tour will probably be the last chance anyone has to see him perform under that moniker, although he clarified he won’t be abandoning his musical endeavours once Gambino is put out to pasture.

Along with the aforementioned Bando Stone & the New World movie, Glover has a stacked slate of upcoming projects that includes a voice role in Disney’s prequel Mufasa: The Lion King for which he’ll probably need to hit the promotional trail, as well as the long-gestating Community movie.

He’s also the co-creator and executive producer of the Prime Video series Mr & Mrs Smith, which earned him three Primetime Emmy nominations for ‘Outstanding Drama Series’, ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, and ‘Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series’.

A second season is in active development, and coupled with the rest of his workload on and off camera as well as his home life, Glover has taken the decision to prioritise his own health by taking a short breather from the rigorous schedule and demands of a nationwide tour.
