Chief Keef’s manager debunks rumours rapper was shot in Chicago
The longtime manager of Chief Keef has shut down rumours about the rapper being shot this week.
On January 14th, an account on X (formerly Twitter) raised concerns about Keef’s well-being with a bold claim about him allegedly fighting for his life.
“Popular Rapper ‘Chief Keef’ has reportedly been shot 6x in the face after returning to O’block after 15 years to film a music video,” the user wrote. “He is currently on life support. Pray for Chief Keef.”
The post has over 2.3 million views on the platform, prompting the rapper’s name to become a trending topic.
However, Fox 32 Chicago reports that Keef’s manager, Idris Dykes, has debunked the allegations. He stated that Keef was fine and hadn’t set foot in Chicago in two years.
A community note was added to the false X post, stating, “This is false. There is no evidence he has been shot.”
30-year-old Keef grew up in Parkway Garden Homes, better known as the aforementioned O Block, a place notorious for gang violence in Chicago.
He released his latest project, Almighty So 2, in May 2024. The sequel to his 2013 mixtape included features from Sexyy Red, Quavo, G Herbo, Tierra Whack, Ballout, and Lil Gnar.
Speaking to the Grammys, Keef reflected on his troubled upbringing. “I was always smart – brilliant, intelligent,” he said. “My circumstances had to be different, though. There wasn’t a way for me to really show… I had to do the streets thing. I had to be a gangbanger.”
He continued, “I had to grow up doing all that stuff instead of my potential that I know that I have, that I’m using doing all this stuff like designing. I can do everything. Really, literally. I probably could fly a plane, too.”
