Chance The Rapper shares powerful new single and video ‘Stars Out’
Chance the Rapper has released a brand new song, ‘Stars Out.’ The track has yet to be made available on streaming sites, but a full music video is available for fans to watch on YouTube. The video has a home video aesthetic, keeping with many of the Chicago rappers’ latest work.
The song forms a part of Chance’s ongoing project Star Line Gallery. There is a lot of work still to be done on this project, but following snippets of unreleased songs and with singles such as ‘Stars Out’ and ‘I Will Be Your (Black Star Line Freestyle)’, forming the bulk of the work available at the moment, this is looking like an album that could have an immense amount of potential.
The video appears to be shot in the same home that has been the backdrop for Chances’ latest releases. The slow tour that fans are being taken on of the property is undoubtedly providing an element of intimacy for those who have been committing to the releases. Not to mention, the colour grading on the video makes it feel very DIY, only further enhancing that intimacy.
The song has a similar feeling. Chance flaunts an unyielding creativity in his lyricism and flow, clearly tapping into what made him such a respected musician previously. The song seamlessly touches upon personal and political themes.
It is no surprise that Chance The Rapper is being cautious about releasing a new project, given how poorly his 2019 album, The Big Day, was received. After a successful run of mixtapes, such as Acid Rap and Colouring Book, fans everywhere awaited the album with bated breath, but it couldn’t deliver.
The record received a poor reception from both fans and critics, leading to the rapper taking a hiatus as he worked out the best way to come back from the album. The main problem with the record was that a lot of what Chance rapped about focused on his wife and how positive things in his life were. While this is fine for a period, a 90-minute album on the subject rubbed people the wrong way.
Planning his return into mainstream hip hop, listen to Chance’s new single below.
