Chance The Rapper’s wife files for divorce

Chance The Rapper‘s wife has filed for divorce after announcing their separation earlier this year. Online records show Kirsten Corley made the first move in legalities, heading to court on December 13th to kickstart their divorce after five years of marriage.

The Cook County, Illinois, petition for dissolution states that the couple has a prenuptial agreement. Their children currently live with Corley, and she’s reportedly seeking child support that’s in the best interests of the kids and waives maintenance.

According to TMZ, Corley has cited “irreconcilable differences.” The former couple, who have two daughters named Kensli and Marli, previously revealed that they planned to raise their kids together. Chance and Corley announced their split in April, stating they had decided to break up after spending some time apart. The pair made clear that they were ending things on good terms.

“After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways,” their statement read. “We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together. We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition. Thank you, Chance & Kirsten.”

Corley and Chance first started dating in September 2013, having first caught his attention when he was just nine years old. “My mom worked at a real estate agency with her mum,” he said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “Her daughters love to dance so they did a choreographed dance at this real estate party that I was at when I was 9. I saw her dancing and I was like, ‘Let’s get married!’”

Chance said they they’d been together before his fame, confirming that “since before I was successful, she was my girlfriend. If I’m successful now then yes, pre-success.”

After knowing each other for 16 years, they eventually got married in 2019 at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach, California. The guest list was full of big names such as Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Dave Chappelle.

The Chicago rapper’s last album, The Big Day, was released in July 2019 and heavily inspired by his marriage. The project debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart but was met with backlash surrounding excessive lyrics about his wife.
