Cardi B’s team have recently come out to defend her stance on the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) following a rant she made on social media about her harassment by the force, who made her strip naked after a misunderstanding.
In an Instagram Live rant, Cardi B (real name Belcalis Almanzar) exclaimed, “They had all the helicopters in LA. Yo, I was freaking out. They had me outside for like three hours. They had me getting butt-naked outside. Shit was crazy. It was deadass a movie and whatever, but you already know.”
She continued, “I’m about to sue the LAPD. I told them like, ‘Yo, I’m Cardi B. Like do I look like I gotta sell some shit? Like why would I do that? I would never pull no shit like that.’” The Bronx artist explained that the officers had made her take off her clothes to prove she had no narcotics on her. However, even after she told them who she was, they continued to push her around like a criminal due to their lack of knowledge.
She added, “They didn’t believe me. It was some white cops, and they ain’t know who I was. They was really tough on me and everything. They said somebody gave them a clue. I really feel like it was one of my opps and shit, like they really trying to ruin my life type shit. Like, y’all don’t even fucking know. I been going through a lot lately.”
The rapper was evidently angry. However, following this, the emcee’s team stepped in to cool down the situation by releasing a statement to Billboard magazine reading, “This IG live was taken out of context, and there is no truth to this story. Apologies for any confusion.”
The statement was also sent to hip-hop media outlet TMZ, which revealed that the LAPD confirmed that the situation that Cardi B was referring to had never occurred and was a false narrative.
After the rant Cardi laughed and thanked her fans, which led some fans to believe she was joking the entire time, which it now turns out she was. You can hear the initial rant by Cardi B in the video below.
