Cardi B slams 35-year murder sentence for Texas teen

Cardi B has slammed a 35-year murder sentence handed to a Texas teen.

On June 9th, 19-year-old Karmelo Anthony was found guilty of murdering Austin Metcalf at a Frisco track meet last year.

Following the sentencing, the Bronx rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that she disagreed with the verdict.

“Wow! Just freakin wow! DISGUSTING,” she wrote. “This is not justice, this is trying to make an example!!!”

She also shared a post that read, “Almost 4 years ago Karmelo Anthony save someone life dont allow these trolls or mainstream media tell you otherwise. They are trying to do character assassination against his image like the dominate society always do.”

The post includes allegations that Anthony previously saved a boy from a drowning pool.

Anthony was convicted of fatally stabbing Metcalf, who was 17 at the time, at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025. He argued it was self-defence during a confrontation.

Austin’s mother, Meghan Metcalf, addressed Anthony in a victim impact statement. “You may have just been given a sentence of 35 years; you should feel lucky because I’ve been sentenced to a life without my son,” she said, according to People.

She continued, “There was a part of him you can never take from me, the strength I still get from him every day, because I know what it was like to be loved by him. My son was murdered. He didn’t just die. He was taken from us. Just as he was starting to live.”

His father, Jeff, also told Anthony, “You failed your parents, yourself, and society. You don’t belong in this community. You can’t look me in the eyes, but you can stab my fucking son?!”
