The moment Busta Rhymes insulted a British fan: “Have respect for people”

Celebrities are often expected to be pawns in public when signing autographs and taking photos with fans. As people who are rich and famous with a lot to lose from coming off as rude, we often see them bottling up their emotions and giving people what they want. However, Busta Rhymes put all that aside and snapped while touring in the UK once.

A video on YouTube shows Busta heading onto his tour bus while wearing a T-shirt promoting his Big Bang album, which was released in 2006. As he was about to step into the vehicle, fans shouted in his direction to have their photo taken with him. When he didn’t acknowledge their request, a woman said, “That is so ignorant.” At this point, Busta couldn’t help but turn back and give her a piece of his mind.

Busta couldn’t believe the woman’s audacity, claiming he ignored them because he needed to go to the toilet. “You called me ignorant? Why would you do such a thing? You’re such an inconsiderate bitch,” he said. “I have to use the bathroom. You called me ignorant because I gotta rush to take a shit? Since when did I need your permission to take a shit? I gotta pee on your autograph and shit on myself? That’s what you want me to do?”

The Brooklyn-born rapper then gave her a lesson in decorum, claiming she should treat others how she would like to be treated. “I’m asking you about the consideration that you should still have for me as a human being,” he said. “You called me ignorant. You ain’t listening. You just think that it’s OK to call me whatever you want? That’s what you think?”

He added, “Have respect for people, you’ll get respect back. You understand? I didn’t call none of y’all no names. I come to use the bathroom, you call me ignorant. Wow, some appreciation.”

Busta’s anger got him in trouble in 2015 when he pleaded guilty to harassment after being accused of throwing a bottle of protein shake at a man in a gym. He was arrested on August 5th and charged with a felony assault following the incident at the New York City gym. It was alleged that he threw a carton of strawberry-flavoured drink at the gym employee’s head, leaving him with bruises.

After the charge was downgraded from a felony, his lawyer, Scott Leemon, told The New York Times, “The criminal charges, especially charging him with a felony, was a bunch of bull. Busta and I are glad the district attorney’s office agreed to drop all the criminal charges.”

Surprisingly, Busta has ties to England. The ‘I Know What You Want’ artist spent time in the seaside town of Morecambe during his youth due to his mum’s sister living there. He spent two summers there with his brother in the 1980s, attending Skerton Community High School and karate school. It was also the place where he first smoked cigarettes and learned about interracial relationships.
