Bronx rapper Suave Drilly shot and killed after leaving parole office

Bronx rapper Suave Drilly was reportedly murdered this week. The 27-year-old (real name John Martinez) was shot and killed in his local borough on October 15th.

The shooting took place in Mott Haven, with police officers responding to a 911 call at around 6pm regarding reports of a man being shot at the intersection of Alexander Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Norwood News, a police spokesperson said, “Upon arrival, officers observed a 27-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. EMS responded and transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln where he was pronounced deceased.”

Martinez was a resident of Mosholu Parkway in Bedford Park. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

amNewYork reports that Martinez was leaving the Division of Parole office when a group of men approached him and opened fire.

A witness told abc7NY, “People were getting close, and they were like, ‘Back up, back up,’ with their guns out. I saw masks, ski masks, and I heard like, ‘Move, move, yo, yo!’ When you hear that, you know the activity. You know what’s gonna happen.”

Drilly’s biggest song, ‘Opp Spotter’ is a collaboration with Spazz Drilly and GoodDayRay, and boasts over one million views on YouTube. Other tracks, ‘Ali’ and ‘Back on My Bully’, each have 80,000 and 66,000 views.

Speaking to HipHopSince1987 in 2024, the drill rapper said, “I’m from and represent the Bronx, New York, not just the Bronx, but Gun Hill Road and the Norwood area of the Bronx.”

Fans paid tribute in the comments of his final Instagram post. One person wrote, “This violence gotta stop, there’s more to life than banging,” while another said, “Smh lil bro this what come with the shits. We all know wassup but it’s still sad to see. Rest up Brody.”
