BossMan Dlow accused of stealing song in copyright infringement lawsuit
A lawsuit has been filed against Florida rapper BossMan Dlow, alleging copyright infringement over his song ‘The Biggest’.
Filed in the Los Angeles federal court, Louisiana music executive Ivory ‘Mobo Joe’ Paynes claims he stole elements of Dog House Posse song ‘Street of Westbank’ from 1994.
As well as Dlow, producer Gentle Beatz, Alamo Records, Sony Music Entertainment, Sony Music Publishing, and Too Slippery Entertainment are also named in the lawsuit.
According to AllHipHop, he claims they released, distributed, and profited from a song that used unlicensed samples.
Specifically, Paynes has pointed out similarities in the melody, instrumentation, arrangement, and orchestration. He claims that none of the defendants had permission to use his work, with the song allegedly using the piano, cello, and bass lines from it.
Paynes is seeking damages, profits, attorney fees, and an injunction to stop the distribution of the track.
Appearing Dlow’s his 2 Slippery mixtape, ‘The Biggest’ was released in 2023 and has over 23 million YouTube views and 12 million Spotify streams.
In the chorus of the song, he raps, “N*gga, uh, yeah, bitch, I’m the biggest/ And don’t forget the realest/ Real money-gettin’ n*gga/ I got a powerhouse, don’t come through on a moped/ I’m way too slippery to have some pressure with your broke ass/ Uh, uh, steppin’ like a doormat.”
27-year-old Dlow released his debut album, Dlow Curry, in 2024, which reached number 36 on the Billboard 200 chart. The project featured big names like Lil Baby, Ice Spice, French Montana, GloRilla, Babyface Ray, and NoCap.
With over four million monthly Spotify listeners, some of his biggest tracks include ‘Get in with Me’, ‘Mr Pot Scraper’, ‘Talk My Shit’, and ‘Mo Chicken’.
