Boosie Badazz remembers his first ever concert

Southern rapper Boosie Badazz is undoubtedly one of the biggest rappers to come out of Louisiana. Alongside other artists like Lil’ Wayne and Kevin Gates, Boosie Badazz helped grow and promote quality rap coming out of Louisiana. With that being said, one would assume that the first concert he ever went to was that of a ‘Dirty South’ rapper. However, that is not the case at all, as Badazz revealed in an interview.

Detailing his tastes growing up in Baton-Rouge, Badazz admitted, “coming up I was a down south junkie”, effectively declaring that his taste in hip hop did (at a point) predominantly revolve around music coming from America’s southern states. However, he later stated that he was also a “West Coast” junkie, and as an adolescent growing up in the 1990s, listening to a lot of G-funk. But there was no mention of the East Coast. In fact, Badazz went on to detail how he, actually disliked the majority of the music coming out of New York in the 1990s.

This is a big statement as so many hip hop legends were born in New York during the 1990s. During this era, you had artists such as KRS-One, Nas, Big L and Notorious BIG all making music at the same time. Some hip hop heads would refer to 90s New York hip hop as a golden age. The purest type of hip hop. However, Boosie Badazz just wasn’t feeling it with all of these artists not being to his taste.

However, there was one artist that completely turned it around for Boosie, and suddenly, he was enjoying a New York MC. It was DMX. “He was the first n*gga from New York that I really felt his music…that n*gga made me feel…bruh, seriously!” The rapper continued singing the late rapper’s praises and suddenly revealed, “That was the first concert that I went to was a DMX concert in Jacksonville, Florida. I’ll never forget it” the rapper continued to say, “The first concert I ever went to man this dude made me damn near cry! He said his prayer at the end of the [show]….this shit was real bruh.” Badazz (real name Torence Hatch) even went as far as to detail that “DMX a legend and Jay-Z was opening up for him, Jay-Z and Foxxy Brown! That’s why you gotta stay on you motherf*cking grind man!”

So Boosie Badazz’s first ever concert was a DMX concert, not Geto Boys or Slim Thug but New York’s very own Ruff Ryder DMX. You can watch a clip of the interview in the video below.
