The sex and drugs that Bobby Shmurda got away with in prison

Bobby Shmurda was sentenced to six years for conspiracy to commit murder and weapons possession in 2014, but the prison time didn’t stop him from indulging in sex and drugs. During his stints at Rikers Island and Clinton Correctional Facility in New York, the Brooklyn native got away with many crazy things.

The rapper behind ‘Hot N*gga’ opened up about his time in prison during an interview with Variety, where he described the craziest moments behind bars. These included having sex during visitation hours, which many officers turned a blind eye to.

“I don’t know if it’s the riots or the sex on the visits,” Shmurda recalled. The singer was clear in the lines that were drawn though he did confess that: “I got oral sex, didn’t get sex sex. I’m too big to be doing all that other shit, ya understand?”

When asked if he got caught in the act, he said, “I mean, sometimes. Some of them wouldn’t care, they’d be like [shrugs]. Some would be like, ‘Ackquille Pollard! Chill, hold it down, son! What the fuck you doing?! This girl right here, both of y’all get the fuck out!'”

As well as sex, his time inside also didn’t steer him away from taking drugs, with the rapper claiming he was able to smoke weed freely. When Shmurda was 16 years old, he spent a period of time in a psychiatric ward and attempted to burn down the building when he was stopped from leaving. He claimed prison was a much better experience in comparison, saying, “You smoke weed, get head on visits and shit, you good. I ain’t got nothing else to do!”

Shmurda also brought his signature dancing into prison and played a variety of different music to his fellow inmates. “I made killers dance,” he said. “I make everybody dance with everybody. I’ll play all types of music: Spanish music, pop music, Jamaican music. I do everything but country and rock. I can’t really get into country and rock too much. Pop, R&B, hip-hop, jazz, I like everything.”

He was keen on keeping up good spirits while surrounded by people who had been inside for decades, some even serving life sentences. “I used to sleep next to people who had 40 to life. People who’ve been in there for 30 years and haven’t laughed — I’d have them crying all day,” he told GQ. “When you got good energy, no matter where you at, you can bring a smile to someone’s face.”

They key to receiving good treatment in jail? Getting a job. “Wanna shower five times a week instead of three? Get a job. Eat better? Get a job. More phone time? Get a job,” he said. “But they kept firing my ass when they realised I was just doing it to stay on the phone.”
