Black Thought and Mach-Hommy announce collaborative album

Black Thought and Mach-Hommy have announced that they’re releasing a collaborative album.

The duo, who are two of the most respected rappers of their generations, will be coming together for a joint project in the near future.

Hommy announced the news in a newsletter to his fans this week, confirming his upcoming albums. “I have a few projects in the chamber: one with August Fanon, one with Ras G … and last, but not least, Black-Hommy,” he said.

During an interview with Pigeons and Planes in 2024, Thought and Hommy first teased a whole body of work together.

“Sometimes I send cats’ verses back because it’s like, I don’t believe it enough,” Thought said. “So when you find somebody that’s on that same type time, it’s going to best serve the culture for y’all to collab. So I think we’re probably gonna continue to build.”

Hommy replied, “Oh yeah, we’re building, I got a folder for you.” The pair have previously collaborated on songs such as ‘Copy Cold’ and ‘Pravda’.

Explaining how ‘Copy Cold’ came about, Hommy said, “I made this song like a decade ago … and the inner voice is like, ‘Black Thought.’ And then the rational mind is like, ‘Fuck outta here.'”

He continued, “So I put it away, because that’s never gonna happen. Then 10 years later, I’ve got Black Thought in my phone, talking about some, ‘Where’s the record? When are we gonna cook?’”

Thought had high praise for Hommy during an appearance on the Questlove Supreme podcast in 2023.

“That’s my ace,” he said. “I think he’s one of those ones. Someone who understands a sensibility of, you know, a person who’s been around since the ’90s, but who also still feels cutting edge. I think his association with the whole Griselda family and that movement, but the way that he’s distinctly different, is huge too.”
