Birdman falls asleep on stage during a concert with Hot Boyz
Louisiana emcee and label executive Birdman has recently come under much scrutiny after footage of him taking a nap while performing on stage with Cash Money act Hot Boyz. The Hot Boyz collective gave birth to Lil Wayne, and they recently reunited for a tour of electrifying performances.
The footage of Birdman falling asleep on stage surfaced on February 25th, shortly after the performance, and it has unsettled fans. The mogul can be seen standing behind the emcee, Turk, with his head dropping down, and he remains asleep and motionless for over 15 seconds.
The millionaire Louisiana icon was lightly pushed and awoken by Hot Boyz member BG and suddenly seemed to wake up. After a slightly startled look, the mogul laughed it off and continued performing with the Hot Boyz. Although Birdman seemed to find it funny, many fans believe that it could be something more serious. Under a clip of the footage, one user wrote, “Bro ain’t sleep he geeked,” while another wrote, “Time to go ahead put the cup down unc. Do it for Ms Gladys.”
The mini-tour began in Tampa earlier this month and is set to set to finish on February 28th in St. Louis. The last time the Hot Boyz all joined forces was for Lil Wayne’s LilWeezyana Fest in New Orleans last November, which was the first time they had performed as a collective since 2000.
Last November, they were also joined by Mannie Fresh and Birdman, also known as the Big Tymers. Still, things didn’t go as smoothly at the Essence Festival early last year. There seemed to be a lot of bad blood within the group as Lil Wayne only decided to come onstage once BG and Juvenile had finished.
The Rebirth creator only performed for 20 minutes without his former crew, and his former friend Birdman. When the group returned, Wayne left the stage. During Wayne’s set, the Cash Money logos on the screens were replaced by logos for his label Young Money, and he said he was “there on behalf of Young Money fucking Records.”
Lil Wayne and Birdman were previously friends, and Lil Wayne was a proud representative of New Orleans’ Cash Money. However, according to Wayne, Birdman cheated him out of millions of dollars. He has previously alleged that the label executive used to siphon off his money and restrict his creative control over his music.
Tha Carter V is supposedly where this beef begins. According to Wayne, Birdman was constantly postponing the release date and messing around with the singles. In 2014, after his album was again delayed, Lil Wayne took to Twitter to call out Cash Money Records, tweeting, “I want off this label and nothing to do with these people, but unfortunately it ain’t that easy,” the rapper wrote. He continued to write, “I am a prisoner, and so is my creativity.”
Still, although Lil Wayne seems well, many are still worried about Birdman’s health and what they saw has concerned his fans.
