Billie Eilish releases brief cover of Drake song ‘Hotline Bling’

American pop sensation Billie Eilish has given the nod to her Canadian chart neighbour Drake with a short cover of his 2016 hit ‘Hotline Bling’. Eilish’s version, titled ‘Hotline (edit)’, is a one-minute snippet of Eilish’s previous cover of the track from 2018.

The original cover, which only lasted two minutes itself, was only available on Eilish’s Soundcloud account or as a B-side for a limited edition vinyl from 2018.

Now, Eilish has shared ‘Hotline (edit)’ with the wider audience after the track went viral on TikTok. Eilish’s version is a slowed-down, subdued version of Drake’s original, with the singer accompanied by ukulele and synth textures. “I know when that hotline bling / That can only mean one thing,” she murmurs quietly in the chorus.

‘Hotline (edit)’ features only the song’s instrumental bridge section and subsequent chorus, lasting just one minute. The short track was released silently on May 9th, and as fans gradually cottoned on, comments began to appear on social media and YouTube comments.

“I’ve waited years for Billie to upload this cover,” one fan commented on Youtube. Another wrote, “It reminds me of the time when billie was our little secret. so proud of all her and Finneas’ accomplishments!”
