Big Daddy Kane and KRS One 'Verzuz' battle announced

After Snoop Dogg’s accurate prediction earlier this week, it’s been confirmed that Big Daddy Kane and KRS One will be squaring off in a Verzuz battle.

The series was created by Timbaland and Swiss Beatz at the start of the pandemic last year. The duo pair up legendary figures from the hip hop scene and pit their back catalogues against one another while audiences watching at home declare a winner after it goes the full 20 rounds.

After starting as a virtual format, Verzuz has continued to grow. Now Big Daddy Kane and KRS One will be battling it out on 17th October at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in collaboration with the forthcoming horror series Chucky.

“WANNA PLAY? We got a new VERZUZ on the way Sunday, October 17th, brought to you by the killer new series, #Chucky,” they said, teasing the announcement last week. “Who do y’all think it is!? Drop your guesses in the comments below and we’ll pick an entry at random to get a pair of tix!”

Snoop Dogg couldn’t resist the chance for free tickets despite his endless millions and took to the comments to write, “Big daddy. Kane. V. K. R. S1”. Meanwhile, DJ Premier added, “I can tell by the silhouette.”

‘The Doggfather’ clearly knew that this battle was in the pipeline, but you didn’t need to be a genius to work out it was coming after Big Daddy Kane made his intentions clear to HipHopDX in June.

“If we can get it to happen with me and KRS-One, I would rather it be like a battle format,” he said to the publication. “If it’s going to be me and Rakim, then we might as well just do it with the music. You know what I mean? I don’t really see him as a battle rapper.

“I think it would be better to just do it with just the music, if it’s going to be me and him. But KRS is a battle rapper, so it’s going to be me and him. I think we should do the music for the fans but also do a few rounds of battle rap.”
