Atlanta rapper arrested for attempted murder over Florida beach shooting

Atlanta rapper JaYy Wick has been arrested on attempted first-degree murder charges following a shooting in Florida.

The 26-year-old artist (real name Donald Anderson) has been accused of critically injuring an 18-year-old man.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, the incident took place in Panama City Beach on April 25th at around 11pm. Officers arrived to find the victim suffering from several gunshot wounds.

Eyewitnesses identified Wick as the shooter, who allegedly fled the scene and performed later that night at Vibez Night Club in Panama City.

Over a week later, investigators obtained an arrest warrant and travelled to Atlanta, where Wick was located.

He was arrested on May 5th without incident in a combined effort between the United States Marshals Service, Atlanta Police Department, Clayton County police, and Panama City Beach police.

During the arrest, Wick was found with a gun. He’s expected to be moved to Florida as the investigation continues, and faces a sentence of 25 years and up to life in prison.

In a statement, Sheriff Tommy Ford said, “We will not tolerate this kind of violent behaviour in Bay County. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are. If you come to Bay County to commit these crimes, we will find you and hold you accountable.”

Wick has over half a million Instagram followers and monthly Spotify listeners. He’s best known for his song ‘Pork Chop Sammich’, which has over five million streams on the platform.

In the comments of the YouTube video, one fan wrote, “Damn jayy…got some motion and then throw it all away on attempted murder smh.” Another said, “Well his career is over. Hes been booked on attempted murder after shooting someone multiple times and now faces 25 to life.”
