How A$AP Rocky got a scar on his face: “It was bloody”
A$AP Rocky, in addition to being one of the leading rappers of his era, is also widely praised for his sense of style and good looks. But aside from a natural beauty, he also bears a couple of scars on his face that make his look all the more unique.
As for how he came by these facial scars, Rocky has tended to be coy about it. Throughout his career, he has been asked about the scars in interviews—but he seems to tell different people different things.
With regard to one of the two facial scars, Rocky seems to have spoken more candidly. When asked in 2015 by GQ about how he got it, he explained that it was the result of a fight he got into when he was a teenager.
“When I was 15, I had a fight with some n—as in the Bronx, on Arthur Avenue,” he explained. “This older guy gun-butted me while we was fighting. He was trying to rob my Pelle Pelle jacket. I still kept it, though. It was bloody.”
The jacket, Rocky explained, had been a present from his sister, so he wasn’t prepared to surrender it without a fight. “My sister Erika bought me that for Easter,” he said. “I wasn’t about to give my shit up. Fuck outta here.”
So this fight over the jacket is apparently how he got one of his scars. But as for the other one, Rocky has been more vague. Speaking to GQ again in 2021, he said of this other scar, “I think shit happens. And that night, shit happened.”
For whatever reason, he has been much more reluctant to speak plainly about this other incident. But he has offered up different tales about what happened. He has, at various points, claimed that the second scar resulted from a time he fell off a scooter or from when he was slapped by an aunt who had long nails.
Whether or not either of those stories have any basis in reality is unclear, but another theory for what happened to him emerged when he was in a Swedish court following his arrest in the country in 2019. During proceedings he was asked to explain why he required a security detail. He replied that he had been “slashed” the year beforehand.
More details than that are scarce, but it is possible that his second scar resulted from this incident in which he claims he was slashed. Whatever the truth, it is clear he does not like talking about it in public.
