Anita Baker has thanked Chance the Rapper for helping her regain control of her masters.
Throughout most of last year, Baker was embroiled in a battle with her former label Elektra. She even told fans not to play any of her music on streaming services until the issue had been resolved, and it seems Chance played a pivotal role in Baker regaining ownership.
Although it remains unclear exactly what Chance did to help Baker, she did make the announcement last September that it had all been resolved, and fans were once again free to stream her music.
After spotting Chance in the crowd of a recent concert, Baker thanked him, and told the audience: “Would you guys say hello to a friend of mine, by way of the music industry, and by way of helping me to get ahold and ownership of my master recordings?”
Following the show, Chance took to Twitter to write: “I saw one of THE greatest performances of my LIFETIME last night! Thank you so much [Baker] for being an inspiration and an icon to so many of US”.
“Had no idea you would be in our Midst,” Baker replied. “Such a nice Surprise. Brought Tears, to my eyes.”
