Andrew Schulz hits back at Kendrick Lamar diss

Comedian Andrew Schulz has responded to Kendrick Lamar dissing him on ‘Wacced Out Murals’, which features on the rapper’s surprise new album, GNX.

In September, Schulz caused controversy following making jokes about Black women on his podcast, Flagrant, to his guests, the UK podcast duo Shxtsngigs. In the conversation, they were discussing the Black girlfriend effect, which led to Schulz making a series of comments that play up to stereotypes associated with aggression.

“They shave their hair because they start losing it,” Schulz said during the episode. “Because he’s so stressed to be around this Black girl complaining all the time.”

Schulz continued: “They grow their beard because they need a cushion when they get slapped. I think the Black girlfriend effect, it might be a protective instinct.”

Following a backlash, James Duncan and Fuhad Dawodu, better known as Shxtsngigs, apologised for laughing along in a video, telling their viewers, “Andrew was making a joke, frankly a racist joke, and we were laughing at it. There’s literally no excuse.”

James continued: “We’re sorry. For me it’s one of them ones where you don’t realise that, when you’re part of a community, you don’t realise you can hurt your own community.”

However, following the apology, Schulz offered up a different version of events on the next episode of his podcast. He alleged that several jokes were cut from the episode, and the guests had the opportunity to remove the aforementioned section from the final cut if they duly wished.

The New Yorker told his listeners: “But with that joke about the Black women, nothing. The fight or flight thing wasn’t really there afterwards.”

Seemingly, Kendrick is chronically online, as he rapped on ‘Wacced Out Murals’: “Don’t let no white comedian talk about no Black women—that’s law.”

While Schulz is yet to address the lyric directly, DJ Akademiks, who has appeared on the comic’s podcast on several occasions, claims to have spoken to the stand-up. “His reaction was, ‘Is this guy too woke to understand a joke?’” said Akademiks during a stream.

Schulz also hosts the podcast Brilliant Idiots alongside Charlamagne Tha God. Therefore, he’s likely waiting until the next episode to share his full opinion on being dissed by Kendrick.

Kendrick surprise released GNX on November 21st, which is expected to dominate the Billboard Chart next week. For the project, he teamed up with producer Jack Antonoff, who previously worked with the likes of Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter but brought his A-game to GNX.
