André 3000 thanks Drake for leaking Kanye West’s ‘Life of The Party’

In 2021, hip-hop fans got a verse from André 3000, but what the public didn’t know was that the verse was never meant to see the light of day and only did because of Drake. Kanye West is a perfectionist, and the track ‘Life Of The Party’ was taken off the final version of the album as West and André 3000 couldn’t agree on censorship.

Kanye West, as a hip-hop emcee going through a religious phase with a young child, wanted the track to have no swearing. However, André 3000’s lyrics had several curse words he was unwilling to remove. Furthermore, he didn’t want to rewrite his verse for artistic purposes. As such, it was not to West’s standards, and he decided to leave it off Donda.

Unfortunately for Kanye West, Drake, an artist he was feuding with, leaked the song, which ended up being featured on the deluxe edition of Donda. André 3000 recently thanked Drake for leaking the track as he wanted the world to hear the original version that he was a fan of.

Speaking about the track’s creation during a recent appearance on The New York Times’ podcast, the Outkast rhymer explained how Drake played a part in the song’s release. Opening up about Kanye’s headspace at the time, the Atlanta rapper began, “Ye was at a point where he didn’t want any curse words on the album, and I said, ‘Yeah, I’m cool with it.’ I’m totally fine with no curse words. But take me off the song because I’d written it a certain way.”

The ‘Hey Ya’ performer admitted he didn’t mind the track having beeps to omit the swearing, but he didn’t want to completely rewrite the verse just to please West and his daughter. Elaborating on this, he continued, “I was cool with beeped versions, but you have to put the dirty version of it out too.”

André continued, “He told me, ‘I told my daughter that I would not have any curse words on the album’. I said, ‘Yeah, man, the kids for sure. So just take me off.’ Finally, Drake puts it out. So, I kinda have to thank Drake for letting that song see the light of day.”

He went on to talk about Drake and Kanye’s beef and Kanye’s diss verse on the track, explaining, “I think a lot of people think that Kanye did the song and put the diss part out without me knowing about it. I’d heard the diss part and me and Kanye had a conversation about it. I had my feelings about it. I was like, ‘Man, do you really wanna do this on this type of song? It’s kinda like going and shooting up your mom’s funeral.’ He felt the way he felt at the time. He put the diss verse on it.”
