Akon arrested in Georgia
Akon was arrested in Georgia last week. The ‘Locked Up’ singer (real name Aliaune Thiam) was brought into custody on November 6th.
The 52-year-old was detained on a warrant in DeKalb County near Atlanta for failure to appear in court for a suspended licence.
According to TMZ, he was taken to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and released the next morning. He spent a total of six hours in jail.
A mugshot was taken upon his arrival at the jail, which showed Akon wearing a black hoodie and blankly staring into the camera.
The arrest stems from an incident in September. The Roswell Police Department found a Cybertruck in the middle of the road, with Akon allegedly claiming ownership and stating his battery had died.
After police called to have the vehicle towed away, they learned that the singer’s licence was suspended for failure to appear in January 2023.
As a result, he was issued a citation for driving while his licence was suspended and released at the scene. An officer also stated, “An illegal vape in the centre console was seized during the inventory and submitted for destruction.”
Akon was a popular figure in mid-2000s, best known for hit singles like ‘Don’t Matter’, ‘I Wanna Love You’, ‘Smack That’, ‘Lonely’, ‘Locked Up’, and ‘Sorry, Blame It on Me’.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Akon’s plans to build a £5 billion city in Senegal had been abandoned.
“The Akon City project no longer exists,” the head of Senegal’s tourism development body said. “Fortunately, an agreement has been reached between Sapco and the entrepreneur Alioune Badara Thiam [also known as Akon]. What he’s preparing with us is a realistic project, which Sapco will fully support.”
