Afroman makes Ohio police officer cry in court
Afroman brought a police officer to tears during his court appearance this week.
The ‘Because I Got High‘ rapper is currently on trial after being sued by Adams County sheriff’s deputies over claims he used their likenesses without permission.
Officers executed a search warrant at Afroman’s home in August 2022 over probable cause for kidnappings and narcotics being stored. However, no evidence was found, and no charges were filed.
According to the New York Post, the 51-year-old artist made one of the deputies cry in court on March 17th.
Afroman targeted Adams County deputy sheriff Lisa Phillips in a 13-minute video, which was played during the trial and caused her to break down in tears.
Following the raid, the rapper made a song called ‘Lemon Pound Cake’ and included home security footage in the music video.
He decided on the song name after one of the officers looked at a lemon pound cake in his kitchen.
Since its release in December 2022, the video has been watched over three million times, which Afroman said was made to pay for the damages to his property, including a broken gate and busted door.
Four deputies, two sergeants, and a detective filed a lawsuit against the rapper, accusing him of defaming them, invading their constitutional privacy, and causing intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Speaking in court, Afroman said, “All of this is their fault. If they hadn’t wrongly raided my house, there would be no lawsuit, I would not know their names, they wouldn’t be on my home surveillance system, and there would be no songs … my money would still be intact. They’re suing me for their mistake.”
