A$AP Rocky disses Drake on new single
It seems that A$AP Rocky has unfinished business with Drake. Other rappers who have been caught up in beef with Toronto rapper this summer, such as Kendrick Lamar and Rick Ross, seem to be done, but judging by Rocky’s new song, he’s ready to go another round. At least, that’s what DJ Kast One has claimed.
The DJ recently went on Hot 97 and insisted that A$AP Rocky is dissing Drake all over his upcoming new album, Don’t Be Dumb. While most people thought they would have to wait for the album’s release on August 30th to hear some of these disses, A$AP Rocky has treated fans to a taste with his brand new single, ‘HIGHJACK’. While it’s difficult to determine if all of the shots are aimed at Drake, many fans believe this is a straight-up diss.
Of course, the issue is that confirmation bias can play a part when people start going into lyrics looking for something specific. If you go into ‘HIGHJACK’ purposely trying to find a Drake diss, chances are you’ll be successful, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that is what Rocky intended.
That being said, there are certainly some bars that pertain to the 6 God; as Rocky says, “These ni**as want my wife bad, the people want my next track.” He also raps, “The coppers want my black ass, fucked up, but it’s like that.” Through the beef that Drake has been having with different rappers this summer, Rihanna’s relationships with both him and Rocky have become talking points. Drake even mentioned Rihanna’s nickname, “Fring,” when he dissed Rocky on the ‘Family Matters’ track.
However, one of the biggest hints that Rocky could be dissing Drake on the song is how he ends each of his bars with the words “Like that.” This brings back memories of Metro Boomin and Futures track, which featured the verse from Kendrick Lamar that kicked off the whole beef. “Pull up to the trenches, all my jewellery, yeah, I’m like that,” he says, “I just put my finger in the **** cause she like that, don’t compare that pussy boy to me (I don’t like that).” That last line could also be interpreted as a Drake diss.
ASAP Rocky isn’t the only rapper who wants to take shots at Drake. Just a couple of days earlier, JPEGMAFIA dropped his album I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU, which featured two different Drake disses.
One was a reference to Drake apparently being involved with underage girls, while the other saw Peggy use the phrase “No Drizzy,” which was a reference to the allegations.
