A Tribe Called Quest announce posthumous Phife Dawg album

A Tribe Called Quest have announced that a new posthumous album from Phife Dawg is pending.

The album titled Forever will be arriving on March 22nd, which is exactly six years to the day since he sadly passed away. The rapper, real name Malik Taylor, was a founding member of the groundbreaking hip-hop group and died from complications relating to diabetes after being diagnosed in 1990.

Over the past year, several posthumous singles from the rapper have been released with the permission of his estate. Last February, they dropped the first track, ‘Nutshell Pt. 2’, which also featured guest features from Busta Rhymes and Redman.

In May, this was followed with ‘French Kiss Deux’and’ French Kiss Trois’ in September, both of which feature the late J Dilla’s brother Illa J.

Announcing the new album on Twitter, A Tribe Called Quest wrote: “This has been a long time coming. Finally, on March 22, 2022 the Estate of Malik Taylor release our beloved @phifeforever’s album, ‘Forever’. For now, enjoy the cover art work and the track listing/credits.”

Meanwhile, Phife’s family said in 2020: “We give all glory to God for allowing Malik to accomplish everything his heart desired, including his solo music.

“He worked really hard to complete his album before he transitioned, and he was ready to share an album that was near and dear to his heart with his fans. His fans meant the world to him.”
