A collection of Redman’s favourite songs to get high to

New Jersey emcee Redman is one of the East Coast greats. Beginning his career as a DJ for Lords Of The Underground, Redman was discovered by Erick Sermon of EPMD and debuted on the duo’s third album, Business As Usual.

The musician made a name for himself quickly and, following the level of notoriety and success he managed to attain during the 1990s with projects such as Dare Iz a Darkside and Muddy Waters, Redman shifted his position at the turn of the millennium.

In the late-90s, as one-half of the duo Method Man and Redman, the emcee also became known for his incredible acting following his role in the legendary stoner-comedy film How High. However, he still continued to make music under the radar.

Since his explosion into the mainstream, Redman has been an unashamed stoner and weed-smoker. Akin to a Snoop Dogg or Wiz Khalifa, following How High, with the subsequent release of tracks such as ‘Dis Iz 4 All My Smokers’, Cannabis became a part of Redman’s brand and has remained there ever since.

As crazy as it may seem, Redman’s unrelenting passion for weed led him to try his hand at politics and in 2021, in partnership with his sister, the emcee decided to launch a political party named the “National Cannabis Party”. Its manifesto stated that its goal was to address legal regulations of cannabis and educate the masses.

Unsurprisngly it was a failure, but that hasn’t stopped Redman from speaking about weed and in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, he described what makes a good song to smoke to.

Unveiling how he had determined his favorite tunes to listen to while stoned, the Da Goodness creator explained, “What makes a good weed song? Well, a good weed song to me is a song that has the right sounds, instruments and hook, only fit to the herbal ear.”

The lyricist continued, “That vibe that catches you while you’re smoking or even when you’re not smoking. I’m always smokin’ … so my ears are always open. A good weed song is a song you can throw on and only real smokers can relate. And real smokers don’t have to necessarily sing the words all the way through.”

During his interview, Redman disclosed that he had been smoking weed since he was 16, and three decades later assured Rolling Stone that he is still an aficionado. His love for weed never waned and in, 2019, he was proud to present MTV viewers with the sequel to 2001’s How High How High 2.

Featuring Lil Yachty, Lil Baby, and iconic comedians such as DC Young Fly, Mike Epps and DeRay Davis, the TV series was a hit and even featured some of Redman’s favourite songs to get stoned to. You can see his full list below.
