When the tragic news of PnB Rock’s murder last week in Los Angeles, investigators initially described it as a random robbery. However, they appear to have since changed tact with their investigation and are looking for “known enemies” of the rapper.
The famed Philadelphia rapper, known for his 2016 hit ‘Selfish’, was fatally shot during a robbery at Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles in South Los Angeles on Main Street and Manchester Avenue.
The incident occurred in broad daylight at around 13:15 when PnB Rock, whose real name is Rakim Allen, was mugged by an armed assailant. It was initially believed he was simply targeted for his jewellery. However, that has seemingly since changed.
According to police sources cited in the Los Angeles Times, Allen was shot almost immediately by the robber after a brief interaction took place. The shooting proved fatal, and Allen was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital at 13:59. The Philadelphia-based rapper was only 30 years old.
Suspicions were escalated given how quickly the altercation escalated and thereafter police cited that an Instagram post may well have had something to do with it. The star had made several geotagged posts on social media.
This led LAPD’s Michael Moore to explain, “We believe this senseless murder occurred following a posting on Instagram.” Revealing his location may have led to enemies in the area targeting him. Adding credence to this is the fact that a getaway car seemed to be waiting for the assailant.
The investigation is still currently ongoing, but the wider rap community are hoping it can be solved as soon as possible to quell the worrying trend of murders within the hip hop music industry.
