50 Cent says he’d consider releasing new music

50 Cent has said that he’s open to the idea of making new music. The rapper hasn’t released an album of new material since 2014, when he shared his Animal Ambition LP. He subsequently chose to focus on other projects.

In a new interview with Billboard, the rapper was asked whether he “misses” being in the recording studio. He then confessed that he has certainly been considering making some new music. “I get the attention that I want from music when I want it,” he said. “I just went out and toured 45 countries, and everywhere was sold out. That made me want to offer new music that I could integrate into everything now. I’ve done what I wanted to do in the [sales] capacity. I’ve sold over 35 million records. Not singles — albums.”

2023 marks the 50th anniversary of hip-hop’s genesis. Discussing his legacy within the genre, Cent said: “My run was so uncomfortable that everyone would like to forget that it happened. That’s just the way it is with the artist community.”

He added: “I didn’t come in being friendly because I had to find a way into it — not find a way to be good enough to work in the community. The biggest compliment in the early stages was that artists felt like they’d made it when they got the deal. You had to earn the right to have the deal.”

In recent years, Cent has spent his time working on a variety of other media projects. Earlier this year, he revealed that he would like to make a “modern” version of Eminem’s sem-autobiographical film 8 Mile. In 2021, he made a documentary about hip-hop’s history of violence. Hip-Hop Homocides sees the rapper investigate the deaths of rappers such as Pop Smoke and XXXTentacion.

50 Cent is also set to perform as a special guest at this summer’s Wireless festival, where he will perform alongside headliners Travis Scott, Playboi Carti and D-Block Europe. Check out the first episode of Hip-Hop Homocides below.
