21 Savage’s nephew commits suicide after shooting sister in Georgia
The nephew of 21 Savage killed himself last week after shooting his sister.
14-year-old Seven Shirley died in Stockbridge, Georgia, on July 22nd, with police responding to the scene following reports of gunfire.
According to the Daily Mail, the child took his own life after accidentally shooting his sister, 12-year-old Lyric, in the neck.
Speaking to 11Alive, his grandmother, Sharon Smith, said, “Just that fast, that boy had made the decision to kill himself. He probably sat up there and thought, ‘I’m finna go to jail, they’re going to ridicule me, everybody is going to be doing this and that and this, and this and that,’ and he couldn’t take it.”
She added, “Something needs to be done about that person who sold that gun because if he would have never bought that gun, this would have never happened.”
21 paid tribute to Seven on Instagram, posting a photo and writing, “Remember when you was a baby,” followed by broken heart emojis.
His family shared a statement on the incident, revealing Lyric was “fighting for her life” after undergoing surgeries on her neck and vocal cords.
“As our family grieves, we are asking our community to stand with us in another way,” they said. “Please help us get these guns off our streets. Far too many young lives are being taken by senseless gun violence. We must work together to stop the illegal sale and access of firearms to minors and do everything we can to protect our children.”
Seven’s death comes shortly after his cousin, 13-year-old DeMarcus Shirley, was killed in a drive-by shooting earlier in May. He was reportedly at a sleepover when shots were fired from outside the home.
