2 Chainz reveals he was banned from smoking around Eminem
2 Chainz has opened up about not being allowed to smoke around Eminem in the studio. The pair have collaborated on two occasions, but the Atlanta rapper couldn’t write his lyrics in his usual process.
During a recent interview, Tity Boi explained that it was Em’s team who banned him from smoking weed around him, rather than Slim Shady himself.
“When I did work with Eminem, I couldn’t smoke in there,” he said Club Shay Shay. “It was kinda funny. It was his people, not Eminem. Eminem was somewhere writing but his people are just so concerned with him, they put the speakers outside so I could listen to the beat.
“It’s a beautiful day in Malibu, I’m just smoking. I come back in to do my verse and the door’s closed and I’m in the booth smoking and I see Em out there and I’m like, ‘He in there while I’m recording, that’s hard’. He’s about to come in and say something but his people are like, ‘No, don’t go in there, he’s smoking.’”
He continued, “Em looks like, ‘Sit the fuck down, what do you think I’m about to do?’ I remember them tripping on him, and he was not tripping at all.”
2 Chainz teamed up with Em in 2018 on the remix of ‘Chloraseptic’, which initially appeared on the Revival album. Then, in 2024, they worked together on ‘Kyrie & Luka’ from the deluxe version of The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).
Speaking on the making of the latter song, Chainz told Complex, “Em [produced] his part, but I [produced] my part. Em came in and added some crazy drums on his part. But yeah, that was fun. There is is only two things a person could say: yes or no. And when I asked him to get on it, he said ‘yes’ and the rest is history. And it is crazy.
“I’m so confident, it’s like, ‘Here go my verse,’ and I’m done. ‘Do you, Mr Eminem, because I already know how you get down.’ And still ain’t going to change my verse. And so I’m glad it came out from him, too.”
